South West Community Cycles
South West Community Cycles are funded as part of the Glasgow Community Cycling Network of bike organisations to promote cycling, its benefits and alternative transport options across Glasgow. They promote and get as many people cycling as possible for health, transport, reduced costs, reducing carbon emissions. They work mainly from their base but will also come to the client if that is feasible. They also have Scottish Government funding to work with volunteers into employment or other positive destinations. They work with youths and under 16s to offer an alternative educational curriculum if they are identified as not engaging in mainstream education. They have Community Rail partnership funding from Scotrail to promote rail use and link the communities around their network of adopted Railway Stations.
They offer a bike repair service and cycle hire fleet of approx. 40 bikes of different sizes and types, including a couple of trikes, shopping bikes, frogs and folding bikes. They have led rides which leave from their base at least twice per week, Tuesday and Thursday 10.15am–12.30pm rides through Pollok Park. They work with doctors surgeries with referrals for health and wellbeing rides, walks, bike lessons 1-2-1 or group, bespoke depending on ability. They work with school groups, scouts, mental health organisations. Bike hires start from £5 for 1.5 hours, with prices remaining unchanged since 2013.
