Belles on Bikes – The Famous ‘Tak ma Doon’ and Crow Road Ride

August 25, 2019 - 8:30 am

Time to tackle the famous ‘Tak ma Doon’ and Crow Road ride! With some big climbs and busy roads this a road bike only ride for those with lots of miles in their legs and no fear of big hills.

We will meet at Queen Street Station to get an early train to Croy. We will cycle to Kilsyth and head up the ‘Tak Ma Doon’ – a 5k hill climb! We will then follow the road towards Carron Valley before joining the Crow Road. Another climb, another great view! We will have a quick lunch stop at the ‘Car Park in the Sky’ (please pack a wee piece!) before the quick descent into Lennoxtown and then back into Glasgow.

Please take a basic bike maintenance kit (spare tube, pump, tyre levers etc), some lunch/snacks, water etc. If the weather forecast is not good, this ride will be postponed.

This ride is for confident cyclists only! The total distance is around 34 miles. You can peel off at anytime but I will be heading to Central Station where the ride will officially end. Please allocate the day to this ride as the return time will depend on the pace of the group on the day. There are no exit points (i.e train stations) if you want to duck out so please think about your cycle experience and hill/road confidence before signing up.

As there are some big climbs and busy roads, we need to keep a fairly brisk pace so expect an average 12 miles per hour. You can see the route here: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2486688619 . To sign up visit the Belles on Bikes Meet-Up page (you must join Belles on Bikes to sign up).
